TIP: When To Visit Napa Valley

Everyone wants to come to Napa in Summer, but Summer brings crowds that will remind you of Christmas at Costco.  Unless you like standing in lines, fighting for a spot at the tasting bar, and sky-high hotel rates, avoid Summer.

The best time to visit Napa is Fall, meaning Sept to October.  This is “crush” time when they harvest the grapes.  You want to see a winery in action, you come in Fall. November is also nice because the weather is still good but the crowds and rates have dropped.  The second best time is Spring when the mustard plants are all in bloom.  This is a “gotta see it believe it”, but everywhere you look you’ll see brilliant bright mustard plants with eye-popping color!  It’s like you stepped into an HD Plasma TV and someone turned the colors on full blast!  There will be no grapes on the vines, but you hardly notice

Note: Everyone wants discount coupons these days, and who can blame them with most wineries charging at least $10 per person and some charging $20!  A good place to find both Napa and Sonoma wine tasting coupons is right here or now there is an app with all the coupons right here!

RECOMMENDED DESTINATIONS

Hendry Vineyard and Winery  (3104 Redwood Rd Napa, CA 94558)
If there is something known as the ultimate educational winery tour and tasting seminar in Napa Valley, then this is it. Look no further Make Hendry your first winery experience while in Napa.

if you’re thinking of signing up for a wine tour in Napa Valley. Take our advice and do it. We can schedule for an afternoon tour & tasting and it lasted about 2 hours. For those who is new to wine tasting, I’d do a tour first and do tastings at other wineries. That way you’d know what you’re drinking and distinguish the taste of the different wines later on.

Back to this winery, you  can learn so much just from looking the different leaves, the buds, the factory where they processed the grapes and how to differentiate the red wines. The Owner/Winemaker Seminar Tour ($75) is held at 10am daily. This is a small group tour with a maximum of 8 people, so it is intimate and personal, and it offers plenty of opportunities to ask questions and to converse with the owner.  It is by reservation only. During peak seasons and weekends, I highly recommend that you make your reservations weeks ahead to avoid disappointment.

The best part of the deal is, if you purchase wines equivalent to or more than $75, then the touring fee is waived.

Silverado Vineyards (6121 Silverado Trl. Napa, CA 94558)
Understated elegance in gorgeous surroundings, the Silverado might just be your new favorite place in Napa. It’s a great location atop a nice little hill with great views. So if wine and views are your things then this is the place to go.Friendly service in the tasting room without any pushy vibe. It really just feels like a bunch of friends sipping and swirling some of the most palate-pleasing wine in the world.

The patio affords stunning views of the rolling hills and rows of vines bursting with fruit. The VIP patio is even more beautiful. Had a lovely glass of rosé to keep the wine country heat at bay. With their winding staircase entrance, amazing views inside the bar area and the upstairs level to drink al fresco – absolutely stunning!

Favorite part about Silverado is the fact that you can grab a glass for tasting practically on any level! Super convenient! Of course what clearly stands out is their wine. Amazing reds – That coupled with their spectacular view – how can you not love Silverado?

William Hill Estate Winery ( 1761 Atlas Peak Rd Napa, CA 94558)
By appointment only!  This vineyard should definitely be on your stop to Napa!  The tasting room is really nice although I didn’t see any seats so you’re standing at the counter. You can view the barrel room behind through the windows. You can picnic here, so buy a few bottles, bring your cute picnic basket and enjoy the Valley!

It may be pricey, but it’s quality wine, great relaxing atmosphere, and beautiful views!  Tastings would probably cost a lot! A 3 flight taster for Chardonnays = $18, or a mix of white and reds (4 total) = $20, Vineyard experience = $30.

Mumm Napa (8445 Silverado Trl Napa, CA 94558)

If you like sparkling wine and are in the valley you have to give Mumm a try. Great choice for bachelorettes/girls day out! It was nice to try something different from the usual wines. Although We are not a big fan of sparkling wines, their drinks were surprisingly good and refreshing.

The tasting experience on the Oak Terrace is amazing. A bit more pricey than sitting inside or on the patio, but very much worth it. If you are going to be imbibing on sparkling wine you should do it there. Comfortable lounging seats among the vineyards and under the giant oak trees. A very relaxing way to spend a morning.

They usually have two different flights, so split two tastings with a friend/ significant other so you can try them all! They have small bites as well and when you mix the food with the wine it really brings out the flavors of both. The cheese/ fruit/ nut plate is to die for and matches the sparkling wines very well. I highly recommend adding it to your tasting. Bottoms up!

There are 4 selections for wine tastings (Toast Today – $18, Club Spotlight – $22, Perfect Picks – $25, Heritage Collection – $25). I chose the Perfect Picks that came with four 3 oz tasting glasses (Blanc de Blanc, Brut Reserve, DVX, and an additional choice).

B Cellars Vineyards & Winery
If you’re looking for an outstanding wine tasting and food pairing, this is a must-go destination while in Napa. You’re welcomed by a beautiful property; everything is modernized, so you won’t be getting the country homey feel here. The hospitality room was gorgeous, it looked like the inside of a home-decorating magazine.

Oakville Trek which included a tour, tasting, and food pairing for $60/person. The food here is organic and lively with attention to detail in both the kitchen and the growing of food. You first start off with one wine and food pairing, then you head off for the tour of the place, which included the cave. The rooms in the cave are absolutely stunning, dimly lit with a beautiful chandelier; I’d host a wedding here if it weren’t against the rules in Napa. You’ll get another tasting from the barrel here while learning about the history and uniqueness of their winery. Then, you’re taken back to the hospitality room for the rest of the tasting and food pairings (4 more).

The food portions are small and can be finished within 1-2 bites.  They serve stuffed mushroom, flatbread, short rib, foie gras, and BBQ chicken roll to pair with Maldonado Chardonnay, Blend 23 (white blend), Blend 24 (red blend), Stagecoach Cabernet, and Stagecoach Syrah, respectively. The wine and food pairings went perfectly together; the food brought out the taste of the wine. The quality of the food was top notch!

All in all, if you’re looking for a more personalized, one-on-one experience (like other small wineries), this isn’t the place for you. The owner is also involved in hospitality, which explains the modernization and restaurant feel of this experience. Everything was well executed here, from the tour to the tasty wine and food pairings to the friendly attentive service
